The Suffolk Chapter of the New York State Council of Administrators of Music (NYSCAME) will hold its annual All-County Festival at Huntington High School on November 18, 2011. The finest High School musicians in Suffolk County have been selected to perform in ensembles under the leadership of skilled guest conductors. After many hours of rehearsals, these students will perform a concert of highly challenging works at a level approaching, if not equal to that of professional ensembles.
In a county as large as Suffolk, All-County selections are highly competitive. On the secondary level, students are selected by virtue of the score they received at the NYSSMA Solo Festival held the previous spring, which must be among the highest in the county.
Islip High School is proud to be represented by:

Islip Middle School and the Islip School District are proud to announce that Gianna Pugliese and Faith Terrill are among the nearly 100 students accepted to The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Division Honor Choir. They will travel to Providence, RI for rehearsals in February 2012. The Eastern Division Honor Choir will then perform for an audience of nearly 2,000 at Providence’s Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium on February 18th, 2012. Students will travel with family members to the event, which coincides with the ACDA Eastern Division Conference.
Commack Road Music teacher Michael Baur sponsored applications for the two students. To be accepted, the students and Mr. Baur prepared performance recordings which were evaluated by a committee of choral music experts. They were chosen from hundreds of applicants in 11 states and Washington D.C. for this singular honor.

The Islip School District is pleased to be participating in the 9th Annual Hofstra University Middle School Honors Band Festival. School districts around Long Island were invited to recommend seventh-grade performers to participate in the festival. 340 seventh-graders will combine with the 110 players of the Hofstra University Symphonic Band sitting amongst them to form the 450 member Festival Band. Following a rehearsal the previous evening, this massed band will take the stage of the Hofstra University Arena on October 21, 2011 for a concert of middle school level music featuring the work of world-renowned composer and guest conductor Larry Clark, one of the most-performed composers of band music in the world today.
