Extra Help ‘Black-out’ period at MS

Students are urged to find alternate extra help means during this short time. This “black-out period” is approximately one week and one day prior to a concert.”[/quote]
The text above is from a notice shared with parents earlier in the year ( Download the entire letter.) We’d remind parents and students that the days leading up to our concerts are extremely important for working out final details and solidifying a true ensemble performance. As such, we do not permit students to leave rehearsals for extra help during the 4 rehearsals prior to the concerts.
This black-out period for grade 6 began on Wednesday, May 11 and continues through their concert date on Thursday, May 19th. The black-out period for grades 7 and 8 began today, Friday May 13 and continues through their concert date on Monday, May 23rd.
Islip Marching Band on Newsday.com and MSG Varsity

The Newsday Marching Band Festival will be broadcast on MSG Varsity at the following times:
- Thanksgiving Day (Nov 25th) at 1:30pm;
- Friday Nov 26th at 10am and 7pm;
- Saturday Nov 27th at 6pm;
- Sunday Nov 28th at 1pm.
Islip Students to join Hofstra Middle School Honors Band

The Islip School District is pleased to be participating in the 8th Annual Hofstra University Middle School Honors Band Festival. School districts around Long Island were invited to recommend seventh-grade performers to participate in the festival. Those 340 seventh-graders will combine with the 110 players of the Hofstra University Symphonic Band sitting amongst them to form the 450 member Festival Band. Following a rehearsal the previous evening, this massed band will take the stage of the Hofstra University Arena on October 28, 2010 for a of middle school level music featuring the work of world-renowned composer and guest conductor Sean O’Loughlin, one of the most-performed composers of band music in the world today.
Hofstra University Director of Bands Peter Loel Boonshaft has invited the following Islip Middle School students to participate:
- Matthew Berger (string bass)
- Italee Brown (clarinet)
- Vito Cassara II (trumpet)
- Schuyler Dineen (baritone horn)
- Hannah Flynn (French horn)
- Brian Lithen (bass clarinet)
- Anthony Navarro (French horn)
- Larry Saperstein (string bass).
