A group of students from Islip High School recently participated in what is hoped to become a new tradition- Halloween Window Painting.
Islip High School students were asked to create Halloween-themed designs to be painted on the windows of five Islip businesses. Islip High School student designers Maggie Farkas, Kayla Kurka, Stephen Pham and Emily Schmitz then led a team of students who together made these designs a reality on the windows of Mod Printing, Kuhn Construction, Insalata, Coyles Ice Cream and Circle Of One Martial Arts.

The Suffolk Chapter of the New York State Council of Administrators of Music (NYSCAME) will hold its annual All-County Festival at Half Hollow Hills High School on November 19, 2010. The finest High School musicians in Suffolk County have been selected to perform in choral, orchestral and band ensembles under the leadership of skilled guest conductors. After many hours of rehearsals, these students will perform a concert of highly challenging works at a level approaching, if not equal to that of professional ensembles.
In a county as large as Suffolk, All-County selections are highly competitive. On the secondary level, students are selected by virtue of the score they received at the NYSSMA Solo Festival held the previous spring, which must be among the highest in the county.
Islip High School is proud to be represented by:
- Jonathan Dowd- Trombone (Band)
- Michael Mc Alpin- Bass (Chorus)
- Catherine Weston- Soprano (Chorus)
- Meaghan Tramposch- Alto (Chorus)
- Rebecca Goess- Alto (Chorus)
- Casey Richards- Alto (Chorus)
- Clarice Oscher- Clarinet (Band)
- Rebecca Sgroi- Violin (Orchestra)
- Tara Duer- Mallets (Band)
- Staci Palacino- Soprano (Chorus)

You were downtown over the Winter Recess, possibly seeing “Mary Poppins” on Broadway and thought “Don’t I know that young man?” You probably do.
Islip Middle School’s own Jeremiah Kissane (grade 7) is currently performing the lead role of “Michael Banks” in Mary Poppins on Broadway through May 2010. (Check out the promotional video here)Next time you are trying to decide what to see on Broadway, drop in on Jeremiah at the New Amsterdam Theater.
