SWING News

Members of the Islip High School SWING choir returned safely from an unforgettable trip to perform at 6 Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. The 18 students and 4 chaperones left from Islip early on May 22nd. The trip went off without a hitch. During the trip, students performed at Lakewood High School before two highly respected musical judges who have credentials ranging from attendance at the Julliard School of Music and working at James Madison University. The students received a rating of excellent and first place in the Jazz Choir Single A division, along with such comments from the judges as “a mature, balanced, and beautifully organized vocal jazz group.”

Additionally, ToniAnn Fanizzi received the Best Vocal Soloist award for the competition. I am very proud at the way the students conducted themselves. They worked hard not only on their music this year, but on the various community events from Radio City, to WBLI and all of our school performances. I have had such an amazing time working with these students this year, and I look forward to future opportunities with these special kids. SWING was also just invited back to perform before the Christmas Spectacular again next year!
